What is

SERA?

We are a group of researchers, writers and evaluators working across the arts, health and social sectors.

We have come together with a shared passion for promoting the use of the Most Significant Change (MSC) storytelling approach to evaluation and research.

See here for the aims of our alliance.

What is Most Significant Change?

Most Significant Change (MSC) is a participatory, qualitative approach to evaluation, where it is difficult to pre-determine outcomes or where complexity makes it hard to measure ‘indicators of change’.

It is particularly useful for evaluating people-orientated projects and services where the desired impact is about improvements in quality of life.

We love using MSC because

  • It is democratic and collaborative

  • It's adaptable and easy to implement

  • It uses 'stories of experience' as data

  • It reveals what matters most

  • It promotes shared learning and reflection

  • It is both fun and challenging
